What Inspires Me...

Being one artist out of millions I'm inspired by the success of those that were in my same position as me but made it through. Everyone has a story from where they started and how they got to where they are now; for some it was a long road, for others not so much. Knowing that I can be that next artist is one of many things that drive me to do what I do. Watching awards shows and seeing the unity and support among "black entertainers" make me feel like i'm part of something special. Seeing that Dallas artist have a stereotype for the style of music we create, I'm striving to break that stereotype so our music can be viewed in a different light. So many avenues have been created to allow artist to be heard that it has created an oversaturation of people now becoming "rappers"; this has made it that much harder but also pushes me to be unique in my craft. My inspiration grows with every song I make and I thank those that came before me who paved the way....

Presentation....

All of my topics revolve around music, the artist and everything associated with them. What I see is artist moving too fast "trying to create a hit", making music based on a trending sound or style and hoping they get their big break. The reason I titled this post "Presentation" is because the first impression is the most important view you can give to an unknown person or audience. The little things such as the design and casing or your sample cd to your image and all the way to your approach is what people see when you interact with them for the first time. I see a lot of artist seem to give off that gangsta/thug image which is fine if thats naturally who you are. What people don't realize is gangsta's and thugs are born and raised into that kind of lifestyle so that makes em who they are. It's so easy to point out artist who are out of character and trying to be something they not. When it comes to music its all about being unique in your sound and style but you also have to know the business side and how to present yourself in a professional manner. Be yourself, it makes things a whole lot easier some will like it some won't, you can't please everybody. Be easy....

The "Easy Route"

Why do many rap artist want to take the "Easy Route" when it comes to trying to get into the industry? Soulja Boy was the biggest internet success to ever hit the industry and I respect his creativity and ideas which has made him a lot of money and a household name. His first single "Crank Dat Soulja Boy" was the beginning of the "dance song" evolution. Now all I see in Dallas is everyone trying to create their own dance song due to the success of "My Dougie" by Lil Will and "Stanky Leg" by GS Boyz. Yes, Dallas has created our own style of music but, no one has sustained any longevity which I see as "one hit wonders." It seems as if its all about fast money and being in the spotlight for a short time rather than for the love of music. Are the DJ's to blame for this? There's a big difference between a "dance song" and a "song to make you dance." There's no substance in a "dance song" and it doesn't take much creativity since most of the dances are a spin off of "My Dougie." I feel like the "dance song" revolution has completely died out but, why are local artist still making "dance songs"?!?!? Better yet, why are Dj's playing songs that have no quality or substance to it, knowing it won't make it past the local radio station?
